How To Make Your Bathroom Feel Like A Hotel Spa

When you visit a luxury hotel, there’s nothing better than enjoying a long soak in a big bathtub or taking a relaxing shower complete with soft fluffy bathrobes. Then, when returning home, your bathroom can feel mediocre in comparison. Although hotel bathrooms and spas go through long and thought-out hospitality fit outs to make them appear as amazing as they do, understandably, you can’t always go into such detail at home.

There are some easy ways in which you can take inspiration from these bathrooms and spas and incorporate them into your own home. Let’s take a look at some ways you can make your bathroom feel like a hotel spa.

Use Calming Scents

One thing that most spas and luxury hotels get so right is the scent. They know exactly what guests want to experience during their stay and scent is one of the most powerful senses which can instantly transform you to another place. If you want to enjoy a peaceful, mental space in the comfort of your home, then incorporating aromatherapy into your bathroom is a must.

Calming scents, such as lavender, rosemary and ylang ylang, are popular for creating a relaxing space. You can use many different methods to scent your bathroom, including diffuser sticks, oil diffusers and scented candles – those last two methods will also create a relaxing atmosphere. For a true luxury spa experience, you could even hang fresh eucalyptus in the shower!

Tip: A lot of spas and hotels use scents from brands such as Jo Malone and The White Company, which you can then buy and use in your own home!

Neutral Colours

To create a tranquil, relaxing environment, you should look to use neutral colours just as what you get in a spa. You should look to avoid high-contrast colour pairings, such as black and white, as this can be too distracting as opposed to calming. Warm neutral colours that are inspired by nature, such as beachy tones, help to create a peaceful colour palette that emulates the feelings of being in a hotel bathroom.

To compliment these tones, look to upgrade your bathroom toiletries and choose products that go with your colour scheme. Most bathroom products don’t come in aesthetically pleasing packaging, so decant things such as shower gels, shampoos and conditioners into stylish amber bottles. Glas tubs and jars are perfect for storing things such as cotton wool, sponges or other bathroom items and for an additional touch, can be placed on a tray to add a luxurious touch to the room.

Add A Small Stool

One thing that hotel bathrooms and spas tend to have is small seating stools in the bathroom. These can be used for several different things, such as storing rolled-up towels for an aesthetic spa look, elevating a humidity-loving bathroom plant or even just for sitting on after a bath or shower to apply moisturiser or dry hair. Light wooden stools tend to be the go-to, but be sure to choose one that matches and compliments your bathroom colour scheme.

Reduce Clutter

We can all agree that the bathroom is the palace where you are not bothered about how it looks. You will have your neutral colours and basic decoration but that’s about it. Then you will have the sink which is overcrowded by toothbrushes, handwash, shavers and anything else you have next to your stink. However, that needs to change if you wish to have a spa-like bathroom.

Purchase Plush Towels

Plush towels are something else that you can add to your bathroom to give it that hotel spa-like feeling. There is nothing better than soft, fluffy towels as soon as you get out of the bath or shower. Both cotton and bamboo towels are both great options that will keep you feeling cosy and warm as you dry off.

Buy A New Shower Head

When you move into your home which already has a shower installed, the shower head might not be in the best condition. If you want your bathroom to feel like a hotel spa, this should be one of the first things you change.

To give it the ultimate spa-like feeling, consider buying a rainfall shower head. These are relatively large and the water just drops on you whilst you shower. You can also look at shower heads which have multiple settings. Make sure it comes with a handheld shower head as well so you can deep clean those difficult areas around your body.

Spend More On Your Toiletries

Another tip for making that hotel-spa bathroom is to buy more expensive toiletries. Sometimes, it isn’t about how the bathroom looks or feels, it is about what you wash your body with. Also, you can buy toiletries that blend with the colour scheme in your bathroom.

When storing flannels and showers, buy glass jars. Additionally, have a little shelf to store the toiletries around your vanity area. This not only makes things more organised but also gives your bathroom a luxurious feeling to it.

Premium Bath Mats and Rugs

We all know that bathroom floors can be cold. That is why it is important to buy bath mats and rugs that keep your feet warm when you get out of the shower/bath. Again, purchase bath mats that go with the rest of the colour scheme.

Have a rug in the centre of your bathroom but place a quick dry bath mat to sit on top of it. That way, you are not getting the rug wet when you get out of the shower. This is another great addition to your bathroom to give it that spa-like feel.

Lighten Up the Bathroom With Mirrors

The finishing touches are always the important parts. Many people like to have bright lights in their bathroom however, all you need is a few spotlights. Then add plenty of mirrors around the bathroom to reflect the light all around the room.

Not only are multiple mirrors great for making the bathroom brighter but they are great for when you are doing your makeup or hair. You can see all angles of your body when getting ready so they can be a great addition.

To Conclude

There are many things you can add to your bathroom to make it the dream bathroom. However, it is all about upgrading the little things in the bathroom. This includes your toiletries and bath towels. All of these things are essential to giving you that spa-like bathroom. Oh, and remember to get a good quality extractor fan that isn’t too loud and won’t disturb your peace and quiet.
